Severe storms are a regular event throughout Victoria. Many homes, businesses and other properties may suffer from the effects of storms.

VICSES annually attend 20,000 calls on average, to assist the community during storm emergencies.

Severe storms can cause damage, they maybe accompanied by torrential rain, strong winds, large hailstones and lightning

If the storm brings torrential rain over a short period of time it may cause Flash Flooding.

Flashing Flooding can wash sections of roadways, paths and land away. It may also contain sewage and debris. Never drive or walk through any floodwaters.

Significant storm events can have a range of impacts on your community, including:

    • trees over roads
    • damaged powerlines
    • roofs torn from houses or businesses
    • workplaces temporarily closed
    • injury or even death
Do you know? Since 1901 over 2750 people have died as a result of Storms.

In response to these risks, SES is implementing StormSafe programs in many areas of Victoria.
