FloodSafe Awareness Week

Published 17/04/2012

FloodSafe Week starts soon, and is a great opportunity for everyone to get informed about their local flood risks.

Starting Monday April 30 and runing until May 6, FloodSafe Week is an initiative of Victoria State Emergency Service (SES). Throughout the week, SES volunteers will be out in force to provide their communities with the tools they need to prepare for flood.

Already this year we have seen large scale flooding in the North East with hundreds of houses damaged and a thousand households displaced. Communities were isolated and hundreds of roads were inundated and damaged, with some still closed.

With the number one cause of injury, illness and death during floods caused by people entering floodwater, SES has focused this year’s campaign on educating Victorians of the inherent dangers associated with floodwater.

So get involved and be prepared. For more information on FloodSafe Week and getting ready for floods, visit our FloodSafe page.
