Marong Community Day

Published 31/10/2012

Victoria State Emergency Service’s (SES) Marong Unit is inviting the community to a celebration on Saturday 3 November.

A community day is being held to mark the official handover of the unit’s new Medium Rescue Truck (MRT). The State Government provided $211,500 for the vehicle through the Critical Asset Replacement Program.

The community day will feature activities for the whole family, including a visit from SES mascot Paddy Platypus.

A maze, jumping castle, face painting and balloons will all be there for the kids. SES will be joined by Victoria Police, CFA and Ambulance Victoria to provide insight into their roles and the equipment they use to safeguard the community, and the Lions Club will cook a barbecue.

The SES Marong Unit has 25 active volunteer members, including four new recruits. They are responsible for storm, flood and land and marine search and rescue response, as well as engaging with the community to ensure they’re prepared for potential emergencies.

The unit’s new state-of-the-art truck had been specifically designed for SES needs and will replace a 4WD and trailer the unit has used in the past. The truck will provide for quicker response times and increased stability on the road.

The SES Marong community day will be held at 16 High Street Marong and Community Park from 11am until 3pm, with official proceedings commencing at 12.30pm.
