SES assisting in fire operations across three states
Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) staff and volunteers are assisting fire services across three states today as they respond to fires and hot conditions.
A Senior SES Operations Manager has been deployed to Hobart as part of the Victorian Multiagency Taskforce, which is supporting the Tasmanian Fire Service as it battles around 19 going fires.
SES also has further staff at the ready to join a second taskforce that is expected to cross Bass Strait later in the week.
In Victoria, SES staff and volunteers are providing support in the Incident Management Team at Heywood. Volunteers in four-wheel-drives are providing logistics and transport of resources on the ground at the Kentbruck fire, which has already burnt through 7,000 hectares 18 kilometres south-east of Nelson.
SES State Commander Tim Wiebusch said North East region staff were assisting the area’s regional command with resource co-ordination in preparation for any fire activity along the Murray River VIC/NSW border area.
A Total Fire Ban is in effect for four Victorian districts – Wimmera, Mallee, Northern Country and North East and all of NSW.
State Commander Wiebusch said Victoria SES would continue to support fire operations wherever and however they could.
