VICSES Life Membership for a local Jewell

Published 18/06/2015

Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) volunteer Christine Jewell has been honoured with Life Membership, a special award which recognises exceptional VICSES volunteers who have provided dedicated service above that which is required.

The award was presented by Member for Euroa Steph Ryan MP along with VOCSES Chief Officer Operation Trevor White.

North East Regional Manager Keith O’Brien stressed that “If a volunteer needed support, Chris would be there.”

“She has given much of her time not only supporting the Victorian community during emergencies, but also to her peers, supporting them through difficult times” He said.

Chris Jewell joined the Corryong Unit of the Victorian State Emergency Service shortly after it was founded in the mid 1970’s.  She then went on to commit to three decades of dedicated service including performing the role of Deputy Controller for the Corryong Unit.

Chris has since committed a further 12 years of service to the North East Regional Support Unit becoming a key member of the State’s Peer Support Team, progressing to Team Leader. Chris has become an invaluable crutch of support to her colleagues across the region and state for over 40 years.

Combining extensive volunteer service with local sporting, school and community groups and a significant contribution to the Country Fire Authority (CFA), Chris’s lifetime of caring for others has been reflected in her VICSES volunteer career, both as an emergency first responder for the community, and as a leader, carer and friend of her peers.

“It is fair to say that Chris has had a lasting impact on VICSES volunteers, staff and the community”” Said VICSES Chief Officer Operations Trevor White.

“Her contribution to the growth and sustainability of Peer Support at VICSES has made the VICSES a stronger and more supportive community.”
