Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) volunteers and staff competed gallantly across 30 events last week as part of the Police and Emergency Services games.

The games are held every year to encourage comradery and interoperability between emergency service agencies who ordinarily only see each other during times of well, emergencies!

Held in various locations across the state, the games bring together a diverse group of people for friendly competition in a social setting.

VICSES volunteer Rodney Hose who won the silver medal in the Men’s 54-59 Longboard competition said the competition was the best fun you can have.

“After surfing and judging all day, the combined services produced guitars, ukuleles and banjos for a wonderful evening of song at the Woolamai Surf Club.”

Close to 200 VICSES volunteer and staff competed over  9 days and carted back a swag of medals in sport including swimming, cycling, bowling, boxing, surfing, cricket, duathlon, lawn bowls and petanque.
