Woodend SES attends truck crash

Published 20/11/2012

Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) Woodend Unit was called to the Calder Freeway at Carlsruhe on Saturday to attend a truck accident.

According to Victoria Police, the southbound truck appears to have run off the freeway at about 2am, collecting about 30 metres of guard rail before travelling 15-20 metres down an embankment and crossing the Campaspe River. Police said the driver died at the scene.

SES volunteers discovered the truck at rest below the freeway and, working alongside Kyneton CFA and Victoria Police, spent nine hours on scene to recover the truck, driver and vehicle contents. Southbound lanes of the freeway were closed thoughout the operation.

Eleven volunteers assisted throughout the day, utilising three vehicles.
