Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Regional Officer – Emergency Management, Alison Tuxworth, recently attended a luncheon in Canberra to commemorate the 40th Anniversary year of the Australian Honours System.

Alison was awarded the National Medal in 2013 for diligent long service to the community and has also been awarded with the National Emergency Medal – Clasp VIC fire 09.

The reception was held at Government house as a way of thanking recipients and to encourage future nominations for the honours system. Invited guests included previous recipients of the Australian honours system including five valour award recipients and Benjamin Roberts Smith (VC Recipient).

There were recipients of many honours and awards such as the Companion of the Order (AC), Officer of the Order (AO) and Member of the Order (AM). The previous Governor Lady Quentin Bryce also attended the event.

Alison was honoured to receive the invitation and to represent VICSES at the event.

“As I was invited to bring a guest, my husband accompanied me.  On reflection I think this was very fitting, Rob has supported me throughout the 26 years I have worked with VICSES and without his support I would have struggled to fulfil the requirements of my role” she said.

VICSES has had a long and proud history with the Australian Honours System with a great many members being recognised over the past 40 years, and no doubt many more in the years to come.
