Strong winds lash Victoria, keeping VICSES busy

• In the past 24 hours to midday on Monday (16/11), VICSES has received over 1,300 calls for assistance due to the damaging winds resulting in trees down and widespread power outages

  • Of those calls, 1,088 were for fallen trees, whilst 126 are for building damage
  • VICSES volunteers at the Nillumbik (146 calls) and Lilydale (113) Units have been the busiest covering the hardest hit suburbs of Lilydale (34), Diamond Creek (24) and Greensborough (24)
  • Top wind speeds have been at 124 km/h at Hogan Island, 120 km/h at Mt Buller and Mt Hotham, 113 km/h at Wilsons Prom and 107 km/h at Aireys Inlet.
  • Strong winds have also affected Gippsland with VICSES’ Morwell Unit (54 calls), Warragul (40) and Moe (35) volunteers also working hard overnight and throughout the morning.
  • In the South West, the VICSES South Barwon Unit received 42 calls and the Corio and Torquay Units received 24 each. 
  • A Moe resident has been relocated after a tree fall onto a residence overnight, whilst a tin roof was blown completely off a shed at Corio this morning
  • VICSES thanks the community for their patience as we respond to requests for assistance. Our volunteers are working through them as quickly as possible with 120 of those calls remaining active as at 4:00pm
