Malvern Unit receives new truck

Last week, Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Malvern Unit was officially handed the keys to its new $170,000 rescue vehicle.

The new Mercedes Sprinter crew cab light commercial vehicle, which replaces the unit’s 20-year-old secondary rescue vehicle, features a purpose built rescue body, and has considerably more storage space and ergonomic features to make equipment more accessible.

The vehicle was purchased with State Government funding through the Volunteer Emergency Services Equipment Program, together with contributions from the City of Stonnington, Bendigo Bank – Malvern East Community Bank and fundraising by local volunteers.

The official handover took place on Thursday 11 Sept 2014 at 7pm and was attended by the the Treasurer of Victoria and Member for Malvern the Hon. Michael O’Brien MP, Member for Caulfield David Southwick MP, City of Stonnington Mayor Cr Adrian Stubbs and Bendigo Bank – Malvern East Community Bank Director Cheryl Newsom.

Several Malvern Unit members and VICSES staff were also in attendance. The VICSES Malvern Unit provides local emergency response services for floods and storms for the City of Stonnington, and parts of the City of Boroondara and City of Yarra, as well as educating the community about preparedness and resilience for floods and storms.
