Toll Driver Reviver Easter Launch

Toll Driver Reviver Easter Launch

Published: 28/03/2018

For over 25 years, TOLL Driver Reviver has been a national campaign with one objective: to reduce road collisions by alleviating driver fatigue.

Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) volunteers will offer coffee, tea and snacks at roadside locations over the Easter break to encourage drivers to stop, rest and refresh, in an effort to ensure they can arrive safely at their destination.

Minister for Emergency Services James Merlino and The Hon. Luke Donnellan, Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan joined VICSES CEO Stephen Griffin to officially launch the Easter 2018 TOLL Driver Reviver campaign this morning on the steps of Parliament House, while highlighting the dangers of driving without breaks over the holiday season, when people can take longer journeys on busier and often unfamiliar roads.

Around 13% of drivers and riders killed in 2017 were likely to have been driving while fatigued when they died, making fatigue one of the big killers on Victorian roads. TOLL Driver Reviver sites offer a place for motorists to take a break and enjoy a free coffee, tea or snack.

In the last 12 months, VICSES volunteers have responded to more than 1000 road rescues across the state. In the past five years, 14 people have lost their lives on Victorian roads over the Easter period (between the Thursday prior to Good Friday and Easter Monday), including three last year.

TOLL Driver Reviver sites will operate from Thursday 29 March through Monday 2 April.

Volunteers will be hosting sites state wide. Locations can be found on our Driver Reviver page.
