New location for VICSES Broadmeadows Unit announced!

The Victorian Government has acquired a new site for the VICSES Broadmeadows Unit to deliver a new centrally located, fit-for-purpose facility for volunteers and the local community, as part of its ongoing commitment to emergency services volunteers across the state.

Last week, Minister for Police and Emergency Services Lisa Neville announced the unit will be relocated to a site next to the Fawkner Police Station on Sydney Road.

The new site has an overall area of more than 5000 square metres, allowing for a larger, more prominent and purpose-built facility that features a six-bay motor room, kitchen, office space and IT and communications equipment.

The Victorian Government is funding the unit’s new headquarters as part of its $54 million investment in VICSES capital works over the past three years.

The new facility will ensure the unit can expand their response to the Hume and Moreland communities and continue to assist Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria and the fire services into the future.

The relocation of the unit from Campbellfield will also provide additional space for and help support the retention and recruitment of new volunteers.

VICSES Broadmeadows Unit volunteers have serviced the community for more than 40 years and are among the most active in Victoria, responding to around 540 requests for assistance a year.  It is the busiest unit in the state for calls to assist police and has responded to major incidents across Australia, including in South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland.

Preliminary works will start in the coming months with construction set to be completed by the end of 2020.
