Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) provided four rescue boats to assist during the 2014 Victorian Dinghy Championship held last weekend at the Albury Wodonga Yacht Club.

The VICSES boats worked alongside two Australian Volunteer Coast Guard (AVCG) boats to ensure the safety of the ~200 competitors and support crew who took part in the two-day event.

Earlier this year, a Memorandum of Understanding was created between VICSES and AVCG that encourages cooperation during community event such as the Victorian Dinghy Championship to ensure that the two agencies are better able to assist each other while responding to incidents.

This was the first time that the event was held outside of Melbourne and VICSES crews were happy to take part.

“The Victorian Dinghy Championship gives us the opportunity to support a high profile event in our local community as well as exercise our capability for undertaking marine rescues” says North East Regional Manager Keith O’Brian.

“It’s also a great opportunity for the community to come along and see VICSES volunteers and the rescue boats in action”.
