The Victoria State Emergency Service (SES) Board today announced the appointment of Stephen Griffin as CEO.

Peter Akers, Board Chair, welcomed the appointment and the diverse experience Stephen brings to the role. Stephen, formerly CEO of the City of Greater Geelong, will take on the role from 12 May 2014.

"Stephen has dynamic leadership skills, garnered over decades of experience in local government working with corporate, government and community stakeholders," Mr Akers said.

Stephen forged a successful career in local government in roles at the City of Melbourne, City of Werribee, Wyndham City Council and the City of Greater Geelong. Throughout his career, Stephen has been recognised for his transformational leadership and robust management of service delivery programs and corporate functions. Having lived in Geelong for much of his life Stephen is a champion for regional Victoria.

"As the emergency services sector in Victoria rapidly moves to an all hazards, all agency space, Stephen’s collaborative approach and appreciation of partnership working will be invaluable in leading SES to achieve its vision," Mr Akers said.

"This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for SES and I am sure our volunteers and staff will join the Board in welcoming Stephen.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank John Casey, who has been acting as CEO since January this year. Under John’s strong leadership and outstanding direction the organisation hasn’t missed a beat during this period of transition. John will continue as Acting CEO until Stephen joins in May."
