VICSES Chelsea unit releases 'Downunder' Christmas video

Published: 09/12/2019

The track is written by long-term SES volunteer Phil Wall and his good friend Jon Mol. The pair who also wrote the Melbourne Storm theme song.

The Chelsea SES unit has responded to some tragedies in recent times, such as the Mordialloc plane crash. It developed the light-hearted video to put a smile on some faces.

The video has been viewed over 8,000 times after it was released on the Chelsea SES Facebook page this morning.

The video was shot in just two hours by 17-year-old SES volunteer Christian Cairns showcasing the diverse talents that exist among SES volunteers.

Phil's daughter Kimba who has down syndrome is the star of the video playing the role of the Elf with today being the international day of people with disability.

The video can be viewed on the Chelsea SES Facebook page www.facebook.com/ChelseaSES/

Quotes attributable to VICSES Chelsea Unit volunteer, Phil Wall

"Whilst SES volunteers are used to tiptoeing on rooftops in the middle of the night, when you put them on the dancefloor it’s a completely different level of comfort"

"The crew were a bit apprehensive at first but ended up getting right into it. It was a great team building thing. Now we've been blown away by the response"

“There is a bit of irony writing the Melbourne Storm’s theme song, and now writing this for the SES, because of what we do with storms”

'Our volunteers have responded to a number of serious incidents in recent times so it's hoped this music video will spread a little Christmas cheer".
