VICSES head north to help storm ravaged NSW

The Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is responding to a call for help from NSW SES with a task force of 55 personnel heading north to lend a hand.

The task force will leave from Melbourne Airport at 2pm this afternoon to assist with the more than 10,000 calls for help due to flooding NSW.

VICSES Deputy Chief Officer Operations, Tim Wiebusch said, “We have volunteers from Central, North East, North West, South West and Mid West Victoria heading to NSW to help with the huge amount of calls for assistance.

 We are in close contact with NSW SES and will provide any assistance we can to help with this significant storm.” “We really want to thank all the employers of VICSES volunteers for allowing their staff the time off to go and help out in this event, without their support this assistance wouldn’t be possible.”

The task force is made up of 52 volunteers and three staff from across Victoria. They will be assisting with storm and flood related damage in the Hunter Valley Region and Sydney metropolitan areas. VICSES continues to liaise with NSW SES to determine if, what and when other assistance is required.

This storm is one of the most significant weather events in the last decade with more wild weather to come.
