Flood history

Baw Baw Shire Council has a history of flooding including significant flood events in May and June of 2012 leading to a number of roads being cut and properties being isolated.

Baw Baw Shire experiences both riverine and flash flooding events, mainly in Warragul, Trafalgar, Walhalla and on the Moe River Flats between Yarragon and Moe. Most residential flooding occurs in townships along the Princes Freeway (Highway) corridor, that is, Warragul, Drouin, Drouin South, Trafalgar and Yarragon, a small proportion above floor level.

The lead time to respond to a flood event may be limited. All households and businesses at risk of flooding should develop an emergency plan and beware of their flood risk.

Households and business should refer to their Local Flood Guide or Municipal Flood Emergency Plan for more information.
