20 volunteers from the Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Port Phillip, Chelsea, Glen Eira Units attended the Moomba Festival parade yesterday.

The parade started out from the Myer Music Bowl at 11:30am, reaching Government House about an hour later.

The King and Queen of the Moomba Festival - Moomba Monarchs Rhonda Burchmore and Rob Mills - alighted their regal float with the able assistance of our orange-clad VICSES volunteers.

Taking part in Melbourne’s longest-running and largest community festival, our volunteers marched alongside many other local community and cultural organisations.

The VICSES crew described the event as “an emotional journey, with a fantastic response from the huge crowd lining the route - who were yelling and cheering - and thanking the volunteers.”

VICSES Chelsea Unit volunteer Kimba attended as part of dance group BAM Arts, but when VICSES Chelsea Unit volunteer Ria rocked up, her two worlds met!

Moomba is Australia's largest free community festival, celebrated over four days from Friday to the second Monday in March. Moomba has been celebrated in Melbourne since 1955, and regularly attracts up to a million people.
