Find a Driver Reviver pit stop this weekend

Find a Driver Reviver pit stop this weekend

Published: 09/03/2017

Your family will thank you when you arrive alive this weekend. So make sure you plan to take a rest if you are driving long distances this Labour Day weekend.

Keep a look out for a suitable pit stop

Our volunteers at the Kerang SES Unit will run their Driver Reviver alongside volunteer Lions Club members.

The variable message board (VMB) pictured was won through a grant from TAC in partnership with Swan Hill Rural City Council, Road Safe Central Murray, Victoria State Emergency Service and Victoria Police. (Swan Hill now have two VMBs).

"This is the first time Kerang Unit is using the VMB. Because their Driver Reviver stop is around the bend, and many drivers were missing the turn off," explains Gavin Quinn, SES North West Region Community Resilience Coordinator. This weekend, the VMB will alert drivers so they can easily see it, stop, revive and survive.

"The great thing about a VMB is that you can use it to get a range of messages across to the community," Gavin says. "In the past, a VMB was even used to alert people to the green blue algae issue in the region. It's a great way to share a safe driving message, plus it has a detector on the unit to let drivers know if they are driving too fast. The data logged from the VMB helps road authorities identify any driving trouble spots, so safety steps can be put in place in future."

Kerang is located in the Gannawarra Shire. The Gannawarra Shire Council is seeking grant funding for another VMB.

Find a nearby Driver Reviver Pit Stop

Drowsy driving is dangerous and potentially deadly.  The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) advise if you're already behind the wheel when you start to feel drowsy, the best remedy is to pull over and have a 15 minute powernap.

So find a Driver Reviver Pit Stop, take a break, have a cuppa and take 40 winks if you need them. Our volunteers, alongside Lions Club members, will be there to say hello and get you back on the road safely.
