International Women's Day: Celebrating the women of VICSES

Published: 14/03/2019

Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day, recognising the incredible contribution of the more than 1,500 women in our organisation across the state.

VICSES continues to celebrate a culture of gender equality and diversity.

Women volunteers and staff make up 70% of all leadership roles at VICSES; this includes unit controllers, deputy unit controllers, officers and senior managers.

While 50% of the VICSES executive team consists of female members.

Diversity is central to the success of VICSES.

To celebrate the accomplishments of women at VICSES and across the Victorian emergency services sector, VICSES volunteers and staff took part in an all-agency International Women’s Day event on Friday 8 March at Federation Square.

The event showcased the latest road rescue techniques and equipment, as well as highlight the expertise of women in the sector at all levels.

It was also a great opportunity for the public to meet VICSES members and learn about how to prepare for an emergency and even join as a volunteer.

At VICSES all staff and volunteers share the same vision, of building safer communities together.

Quote from Stephen Griffin, VICSES Chief Executive Officer

“I couldn’t be prouder to support gender equality and diversity in the VICSES workplace and I want to thank all of our incredible female volunteers and staff for your tireless contribution to this wonderful organisation.”

“International Women’s Day is an important opportunity to recognise the vital role women play in supporting communities 24/7 before, during and after emergencies, at not only VICSES, but across the entire emergency services sector.”
