Important message relating to cold-calling

Important message relating to cold-calling

Published: 26/07/2018

Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) is aware some Victorians have received phone calls asking for the purchase of raffle tickets, purportedly for the benefit of VICSES volunteers.

These calls may relate to a fundraising raffle being conducted by the National State Emergency Service Volunteer Association (NSESVA), for the benefit of all SES Associations in every State and Territory. The fundraiser is currently active, and Victorian residents may be cold-called to ask if they would like to purchase raffle tickets through representatives of One Contact, who are a national sales company commissioned by NSESVA to run the raffle.

VICSES does not seek ‘cold-call’ donations via phone. We encourage callers to verify the caller and ask for written verification before proceeding with any contributions.

When VICSES volunteers do collect donations from their communities, they wear full uniform and carry photo identification identifying them as volunteers from their local SES Unit. We also encourage people who want to give, to give directly to units. You can find your local unit by contacting VICSES or your Regional Office.

Further details on the raffle are available at http://www.nsesva.org.au/
