Jenni has been trained in a range of skills she never dreamt she would ever need or use. The training helps you help the community you’re a part of – whether that is climbing a roof safely, working heavy equipment, driving a truck or learning public relations.
When she first signed up to volunteer in 1994 Jenni had recently separated from her husband. She had three teenage kids and wanted to broaden her friendship group with activities that didn’t interfere with her job or family life.
Being an organised and methodical person, the night time call outs meant she seamlessly slipped back home in time to organise the kids and get to school.
“The SES is a community group that gets called out in tough times,” Jenni reflects. “It’s not a social group for the fluffy times, we’re there for the wet and windy times – and the good times as well.”
