VICSES responds to wild winds

As at 11:00pm (27/8), VICSES had received over 1,750 calls for assistance as a result of the wild winds that impacted Victoria late on Thursday.

85% of calls (1,475) were for trees down with many creating traffic hazards whilst 10% (180) were to respond to building damage.

Most affected areas include: Mount Evelyn (43 calls for assistance), Belgrave (40), Croydon (33), Lilydale (31) and Mount Waverley (28).

SES volunteers will be working hard into the night and into the morning and thank the community for their patience as they respond and clear these jobs as quickly as possible.

VICSES is urging any road users particularly across the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and the Yarra Valley to please drive slowly in the conditions and be mindful of fallen branches and debris.

For flood or storm emergency assistance the public can call the SES on 132 500.
