CEO statement regarding road crash rescue

Published: 07/06/2017

I would like to allay any fears Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) volunteers have in the importance and continuation of their role with road crash rescues.

VICSES will remain the major provider of road crash rescue for Victoria operating 102 road crash rescue units across the state. The changes to our fire services will not change the current or future role of VICSES in providing Road Crash Rescue services to Victoria.

Since August 2016, VICSES has conducted consultation meetings across the state regarding the current review into Road Rescue Arrangements and the potential implications of the Country Fire Authority.

The CFA career firefighters will provide first response support to road accidents – allowing paramedics earlier access to patients before VICSES volunteers complete rescues with large rescue equipment and higher level training.
