Linda Cherubin is a life member of the Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) Torquay Unit.
She has been serving her community, as a volunteer, for more than 20 years.
On top of that, Linda is also a mother of three, and grandmother of two!
She is one of the many incredible mums who sacrifice their precious time with their family on Mother’s Day to help the community.
A previous Deputy Unit Controller, Linda has responded to a range of various incidents, including the high profile cliff collapse rescue of a young man, after he had become trapped in a landslide at Jan Juc Beach, along Victoria's coastline in November 2001.
Along with her rescue team, Linda was subsequently awarded a Group Bravery Citation at Government House.
These days Linda spends her time as the unit’s Work Health and Safety Officer, whilst also running her own business with her husband.
For Linda, signing up with VICSES, all those years ago was one of the best decisions she made.
It seems helping her community is in Linda’s blood.
She attributes her career with VICSES to her mum, who was no stranger to community service.
Linda’s mum, Julie Copper, was the first elected female Councillor and later Mayor of the former City of Moorabbin. She was one of the key influencers that led to the fruition of the VICSES Moorabbin Unit. A unit that her father would go on to volunteer with.
This kind of passion and dedication from volunteers like Linda, and her mother, is what makes VICSES the organisation it is today.
From all of us at VICSES - happy Mother’s Day to each and every mum.

Quotes attributable to Linda Cherubin, VICSES Torquay life member
“Volunteering with VICSES has been a fantastic experience; I love the physicality of the work. For me, it changes my daily routine from mother and business woman, to something bigger, to an emergency first responder.”
“In giving back to the community with VICSES, I’m reminded of my mum and hope that she would be proud of me today. I also hope that I’m setting an example for my kids, and that they are also proud of me.”
