Ordinary people, extraordinary tasks: Jarrod McLean from Horsham Unit

In his 19 years with the Victoria State Emergency Service, Jarrod McLean, Unit Controller has been part of three units -- Nhill, Goroke and Horsham. Located at Horsham for the past 12 years, Jarrod served in several roles including: ordinary member, occupational health and safety officer, trainer assesor and Unit Controller.

"Some of the tasks that I never thoguht I would do through the SES include coordinating the sand-bagging of the Lutheran Retirement Rest Home during the 2011 floods, using hydraulic cutters to rescue people out of cars, and assisting with the rescue of a person trapped in a rock at the base of Mount Arapiles," Jarrod said.

"None of this would have been possible without teamwork and being surrounded by great people," he adds. "SES members are everyday people who do extraordinary tasks at an extremely high level to keep their community safe. They are motivated, dynamic and flexible in rescue operations and have great pride in their community."
