Volunteering to support the current emergencies across Victoria

Published: 03/01/2020

Many Victorians have reached out to Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) wanting to help with the response to the current emergencies across our State. We thank you for your support.

To volunteer for VICSES, all applicants first go through a selection and screening process to ensure they understand the role and can meet the time commitments required for training and performing volunteer duties.

When an application is approved, all new volunteers receive nationally endorsed and competency-based training and support to ensure they are skilled and capable to perform the role. This begins with fundamentals training which is typically spread over six sessions at your allocated Unit (generally Mondays or Tuesdays). This training provides essential safety skills, rescue organisation and planning knowledge, understanding of communications equipment, and more, and will need to be completed prior to attending any requests for assistance or using equipment.

Safety drives decisions at VICSES and our volunteers must be well versed in providing a safe and healthy workplace for themselves, their fellow volunteers, and their community, before commencing in their roles.

We welcome your interest in becoming a volunteer with VICSES. To find out more about our units in your area, or register your interest with us - go to ses.vic.gov.au/join-us.
